The Walmart shop in Elmwood was closed after a fire caused “serious” damage to the business.
Jefferson Parish government spokesperson Gretchen Hirt Gendron said “No one was injured in the blaze” which was reported about 9:44 p.m. at the Walmart located at 5110 Jefferson Highway on Monday, May 30.
The cause of the one-alarm fire, according to Grendron, has yet to be identified. As of Tuesday morning, investigators from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Jefferson Parish East Bank Consolidated Fire Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms were on the scene.
A second fire was reported Tuesday morning.
The fire was electrical, Grendron said, caused by a large amount of water on the store’s floor after Monday’s fire-fighting efforts.
The second fire caused no injuries.
Officials of Jefferson Parish are unsure when the store will reopen.
