More than 2000 students will be finding their feet and settling into life at the University of Gloucestershire this weekend.

The Students’ Union (SU) Superstars team will be on hand to help Freshers settle in, from carrying their cases to giving them advice on getting around. Moving in barbecues at each campus on Sunday evening (September 16) will give new students a chance to mingle before a week of events gets under way.

Highlights include the Freshers’ Fayre on Thursday September 20 and the Freshers’ Ball the following evening.

John Abell, Chief Executive of the University of Gloucestershire’s Students’ Union, said tickets were selling well for the ball and the finishing touches for the Freshers’ Fayre were almost complete.

“The Fayre is a huge event and a fantastic opportunity for new students to find out more about university life. They can find out more about how to get involved with more than 60 sports clubs and societies and try their hand at Zumba, tennis, yoga and much more. The Student Enterprise Network will be showcasing new businesses set up by current and former students from Dutch bicycles to cupcakes and more than 30 external exhibitors will be demonstrating what they have to offer.”

There will also be a Chill Out zone and the new bar at the Park campus, the Stag in the Park, will be opening its doors to welcome all students.

The Freshers’ Ball will be held at Cheltenham Town Hall for the first time this year, with acts including indie rock band The Subways, rapper Wiley, and hip hop group Clement Marfo and The Frontline.
