Early in December St. John’s Church will welcome cribs from around the World to its annual Crib Festival.

Local schools and clubs are busily working on cribs to exhibit at the popular event and they will be joined by donations of cribs from as far afield as Indonesia, Mexico, Africa, Vietnam and from around Europe.

The second annual Nativity Crib Festival (1), which last year attracted over 3000 visitors, will be held from Wednesday 5th December to Sunday 9th December at St. John’s Church in Wickwar Road.

The Festival begins on Tuesday evening when the Bishop of Gloucester officially opens the event. Public Viewings (2) are held each day up to the 9th.

The Crib Festival welcomes back a special visitor ‘Joseph the Camel’ a Bactrian Camel (3) originally from Russia and now residing with the Animal Company based in Stratford.

Joseph will be one of the highlights this year of the town’s Victorian Evening and will lead a ‘Living Crib and Lantern Procession’ on Friday 7th December. Starting in Horseshoe Lane at 5.30pm the procession will make its way to St. John’s for a performance by Chipping Sodbury School Choir and a Living Crib outside the Church.

The Crib Festival raises much needed funds for the Church and local charities and proved to be a huge success in 2012.

The Church welcomes offers of crib sets to display in the exhibition and anyone interested should contact the church on 01454 313159.
