Facebook, Google and Netflix have all said that they will need staff to be vaccinated once workplaces are completely reopened. The UK government stated that it has no plans to introduce a package of "no jab, no job " policies in the UK. Still, individual companies may introduce their own vaccination policies.
When asked if it was a good idea for some people to be fully vaccinated before going back to the office, transport secretary Grant Shapps told Sky News: “Yes, it is a good idea, and yes, some companies will require it. We are not going to make that legislation that every adult has to be double vaccinated before they go back to the office."
Currently, Facebook, Netflix, and Google have only implemented the requirement that employees must be vaccinated against Covid-19 before returning to the US office, but all plan to extend the policy to other countries.
Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said that anyone working on a Google campus needs to be vaccinated. The technology giant plans to have most of its employees return to the office starting on October 18 instead of September 1 as the previous target date. Pichai said: “We’re rolling this policy out in the US in the coming weeks and will expand to other regions in the coming months. The implementation will vary according to local conditions and regulations and will not apply until vaccines are widely available in your area.”
Netflix is making Covid vaccinations compulsory for so-called “zone A” personnel, for example, key cast and crew on US TV and film production jobs. It also intends to roll out the policy worldwide.
