A glorious sunny day day in North Gloucestershire on Sunday 21st March 2010 provided the perfect setting for the first ever Cotswold Marathon. This tough but scenic 3 lap course starting and finishing at Temple Guiting, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire GL54 5RT was going to be the perfect test for my injury and ongoing effort to regain fitness. Starting out at just under 8 minute miling, I would have been happy just to dip under 3:30 again as I did at Duchy 2 weeks ago. However, after 2 laps and still feeling pretty good, decided to up the pace for the final lap reaching 20 miles in just over 2:35 and eventually clocking 3:21:45 for a very surprising but pleasing 10th place out of 85 finishers. Steve was wearing race number 38 and racing for Bourton Roadrunners. More pleasing though was the fact that I’m still on target to reach my dream of running a record breaking 500 marathons with an average finish time of sub 3:20. If all goes to plan it could be very soon, watch this space ..
