On Sunday 18 August almost 600 cyclists took part in this years’ Sodbury Sportive, a 50% increase on the 2012 event.

The Sportive (1) offered a choice of three distances, 30, 60 and 100 miles to cater for all levels of cycling ability and fitness. Over 100 riders took part in the 100-mile route and organisers are confident that the £6400 raised for various Charities last year will be exceeded, quite possibly by up to 50%.

Sodbury Sportive Organiser and Rotarian Bill Bennett commented, ‘we are absolutely delighted at the resounding success of this our second annual Sportive and to have raised such a substantial amount for Charity – from the feedback received it is clear that the entrants enjoyed themselves with many commenting positively on the excellent route, marshalling, signage and the brilliant choice of food and friendly service at Food Stations’.

Cyclists set off from Chipping Sodbury Rugby Club at 8am and followed a route that took participants through some of the prettiest highways and byways combining some challenging steep climbs with flat and fast sections of the Cotswold Edge.

Feedback from participants has been all-positive with many commenting on the ‘superb’ organization and the ‘lovely’ route and many pledging to support the event next year.

The 2014 Sodbury Sportive takes place on Sunday 17th August. (2)
