Commercial property specialists Colliers International have stepped up efforts to find developers to shape a key redevelopment site at the former Headlands School campus in Upper Stratton, Swindon. The firm’s development Consultancy and Agency team has been instructed to dispose of the property, located some two and a half miles north of Swindon town centre – on behalf of Swindon Borough Council.
Declared surplus to requirements following the establishment of the new academy at Pinehurst, the 13.5-acre school site has been earmarked for around 152 new homes including a proportion of affordable housing.
Chris Dawson from Colliers International said: “This is an attractive site and along with the council we feel that the timing is right to offer it to the market. Given the significant recovery in the property market and the substantial reductions of S106 contributions we are anticipating strong interest in this key residential development site in the heart of Swindon.”
Close to shops, schools and other local services, the new homes will benefit from a large area of open space, a grassed sports pitch and a community leisure building which is to be retained.
Colliers International’s planning team submitted an outline planning application in January 2012 for residential use of the eastern part of the site with up to 152 homes, together with a new sports pitch, open space, playground, open water feature and a dedicated car parking area.
The package will also include provision for 15 per cent affordable housing together with payment of financial contributions towards education, social services and community uses.
