Manufacturing firm Darnel Inc will invest almost $20 million to open a plastic container plant in Monroe and create 100 jobs.

Darnel will manufacture plastic foam containers for the food industry at the plant in Monroe.

Walt Harfmann, the firm’s general manager said: “Darnel has chosen Union County as the location for our new manufacturing facility because of its ease of distribution access and the availability of skilled workers.”

Harfmann added: “We have been very pleased with the cooperative spirit of the economic development personnel of North Carolina, Union County and the city of Monroe. We look forward to being a productive member of an outstanding community.”

The One North Carolina Fund aids the state in industry recruitment and expansion by giving financial assistance to local governments in order to attract corporate ventures that would boost economic activity and create new jobs in the state.

One North Carolina Fund grants require and are dependent upon a local match. Through the utilization of this Fund, more than 20,000 jobs and $3 billion in investment have been created since 2001.
