Saturday 27th September and Sunday 28th September 2008 – Toddington Railway Station
Paddington Bear, one of the most iconic characters from children’s literature, celebrates his fiftieth birthday this year.  This is something he won’t be keeping under his hat! So, to mark the occasion, he will be returning to his railway roots with a visit to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway at Toddington in the Cotswolds.
A host of special events are already planned for the weekend of 27th and 28th September 2008, at the GWR’s Toddington base.  A double steam service is scheduled at the award-winning heritage railway, with a diesel shuttle train also in operation.

Paddington himself will be mingling with the crowds and special activities have been laid on for the whole family over the weekend.  There will be a Punch and Judy show, a children’s entertainer, bouncy castle and a treasure hunt with a colouring activity and a prize passport to complete for younger visitors.

The GWR’s own fire department will be running children’s games, and their historic vehicles will be on display.  Other nostalgic attractions include a roundabout, vintage double decker bus rides and, of course, steam hauled trains through the glorious Cotswold countryside.  The souvenir shop and museum coaches will be open throughout the weekend.

As well as travel on the main line (which includes the second longest tunnel on a preserved railway), the Toddington narrow gauge railway will be in operation throughout the weekend.

While Paddington is munching on his marmalade sandwiches, visitors can tuck into a wider range of snacks at the railway’s very own Flag and Whistle tea room, or the train’s buffet car.

There’s no need to book in advance – tickets for the twenty mile round trip may be purchased on the day at either Toddington or Cheltenham Race Course stations. Ample free parking is provided at both stations.
