Morgan Lewis is expanding to Seattle near clients Amazon and Microsoft

Morgan Lewis

Morgan Lewis is opening a new office in Seattle and has hired 19 lawyers from litigation boutique Calfo Eakes.

The initiative stretches the firm's presence in the technology, life sciences, healthcare, retail, financial services, and energy sectors.

Amazon, Microsoft, and Expedia Group are among the Seattle customers of the legal company, which has more than 60 offices in the city.

With $2.57 billion in revenue, it now ranks 10th on the AmLaw 200 list this year, with more than 30 offices, including Abu Dhabi, which was launched in 2019.

The business will take over the lease from Calfo Eakes and add six new partners to the Seattle operation.

Five Morgan Lewis lawyers had already migrated to the city and been working remotely since the pandemic broke.

Angelo Calfo and Patty Eakes, the boutique's name partners, will co-lead the new office.

Calfo is a criminal defense attorney and former federal prosecutor who represents businesses and individuals in high-stakes criminal trials and investigations, as well as a range of commercial issues.

Eakes is a trial lawyer and former prosecutor who stood for firms and executives in commercial litigation, labor disputes, and white-collar criminal defense.

The trial lawyers group was hired laterally through Microsoft.

The Chair of Morgan Lewis Jami McKeon said: “We let them know were looking seriously at Seattle, and for some real talent, and they suggested we talk to Calfo Eakes. We’ve been looking for two years.”

Taking the Calfo Eakes associates and other workers into consideration, the new company will start with 34 personnel.

They will handle commercial and intellectual property litigation, employment disputes, and white-collar criminal defense and investigative cases.

The corporation, which also has five California branches, has no imminent plans to open new offices.
