Brittish cellist, Raphael Wallfisch is the latest international soloist to team up with Stratford-upon-Avon-based Orchestra of the Swan.
He joins the orchestra as their Associate Artist for the 2013-14 season which will see him perform three of his favourite works for cello and orchestra in the newly rejuvenated Civic Hall.

Raphael was born into a musical family – his mother is cellist Anita Lasker-Wallfisch and his father the pianist Peter Wallfisch. He has recorded nearly every major work for cello and has had many works written especially for him.

His opening programme, on 15 October 2013 at 7.30pm, will include Tchaikovsky’s elegant Rococo Variations and later in the season, he will play Schuman’s Cello Concerto and the Saint-Säens Cello Concerto in A minor.

Wallfisch is the latest in an impressive line of Orchestra of the Swan Associate Artists who have included violinist Tasmin Little, pianist Benjamin Grosvenor and cellist Julian Lloyd Webber. Artistic director, David Curtis, comments: “Raphael Wallfisch is one of the UK’s most celebrated cellists performing on the international stage. I’m sure that our audiences in the new Civic Hall will give him a very warm welcome and that he will feel very much part of the OOTS ‘family’.”

Other musicians joining Orchestra of the Swan for the 2013-14 season include violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen who will perform Mozart’s ‘Turkish’ Concerto and Rondo.

Tickets for Orchestra of the Swan’s new season, priced from £9.50, are available from Civic Hall Box Office on 01789 207100.
