A series of free food safety ‘drop in’ days for businesses is being served up by Cotswold District Council. The authority organised the sessions after discovering through its routine inspections that not all premises are keeping a properly documented food safety management system.
Catering businesses are required by law to keep records showing they comply with hygiene regulations, carry out daily checks and train their staff. The easiest way to do this is through the Food Standards Agency’s Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) scheme, which provides user-friendly information packs and a diary to help businesses.

The Council’s Public Protection Manager Kate Bishop said: “Increasingly among Cotswold businesses we are finding that records have not been completed and diaries have not been kept up. While we recognise that there’s a lot to do when running a business, food safety is of paramount importance and we need to ensure the public is not at risk when eating out. Businesses are required to keep these records and the idea behind the drop-in sessions is to offer as much help and advice as we can to make it as straightforward as possible.”

The free sessions are being run by the Council’s Food & Safety team on the following dates:

Moreton in Marsh – Moreton Area centre, High Street, Moreton-in-Marsh, between 10.30am-12.30pm on Thursday 4th December 2008
Cirencester – Corinium Museum, Park Street, Cirencester, between 10am-12pm on Monday 15th December 2008
Fairford – Fairford Community Centre, High Street, Fairford between 10am-12pm on Thursday 15th January 2009
Tetbury – Tetbury Town Council, between 10am-12pm on Thursday 22nd January 2009, The Old Courthouse, 63 Long Street, Tetbury.
