Elon Musk fired Twitter engineers days after saying there would be no more layoffs

Twitter faces lawsuit from former executives over unpaid legal fees

Elon Musk has fired dozens more Twitter employees days after saying the layoffs were over.

Two familiar sources told Insider the firings caught Twitter employees by surprise.

During an all-hands meeting earlier this week, Musk stated that there will be no further layoffs at the firm.

Employees who were sacked overnight on Wednesday, November 23 were told that they were being let go due to poor performance.

The people fired said they were given one month's severance pay after their dismissal.

Sources said access to work tools and laptops was blocked, and a termination letter was sent to affected workers' personal email accounts.

Musk has previously laid off, resigned, or sacked thousands of Twitter employees, leaving critical workers overworked.

Sources said Twitter teams are already understaffed and several staffers had to work on Thanksgiving.

Musk's new policy requires Twitter engineers and other technical staff to send him weekly updates on what they worked on, what they intended to finish, and the specific lines of code they wrote.

External engineers have reportedly been hired by Twitter recruiters to work for the firm under Musk.
