eBay reveals more than half of UK shoppers will buy second-hand presents this Christmas

52 percent of UK consumers want to buy used or refurbished goods this holiday season according to a new study from online retailer eBay.

The data says shoppers are planning to spend over £100 less overall, and they are choosing used goods to reduce costs.

Additionally, as the holidays approach, customers are looking for "high-quality gifts at outstanding pricing," with 38 percent stating saving money was one of their top priorities this year.

65 percent of customers are prioritizing more considerate gifts this Christmas, according to eBay, which claims that items like reconditioned Dyson airwraps, Hotel Chocolat velvetisers, and used designer clothing offer the "ideal solution."

A further 29 percent said they had begun Christmas shopping earlier this year, to get in advance of the festival rush.

In the run-up to Black Friday, eBay data found that 77 percent of shoppers were planning to shop for Christmas on Black Friday and search data displayed over 200 percent more searches for ‘stocking fillers.

eBay senior director of trading Kirsty Keoghan said: “We’re anticipating a shift to pre-loved gifting this Christmas and we want to celebrate it.

“There’s nothing better than giving a personal gift, which you know the person is really going to love, and gifting pre-loved allows you to do just that.

“From luxury watches to signed football shirts and rare trainers, pre-loved gifts are the answer to all of your Christmas shopping stresses.”
