Specialty printing

Specialty Printing will relocate from East Windsor to Windsor to expand its operations.

The business has leased a 330,000-square-foot industrial structure in Windsor.

Specialty Printing prints labels for all from prescription bottles to groceries and beer cans. It says its new location will be the major label plant in the north-eastern U.S.

The building, which is owned by Industrial Realty Group, has 267,480 square feet of manufacturing space and 62,520 square feet of office (flex) space, as well as nine exterior and four internal docks, and nine drive-ins doors, and multiple overhead cranes.

The property was most recently occupied by Permasteelisa. The lease was brokered by Frank Hird and Carol Karney of O, R&L Commercial LLC.

Since 1978, Specialty Printing has been a family-owned and operated manufacturer of pressure-sensitive labels and related products. Its labels, packaging, tags, and electronic signs can be found in retail stores, grocery stores, medical facilities, restaurants, distribution centers, post offices, and warehouses across the country.

The company plans to move its manufacturing, distribution, and headquarters from three buildings totaling 150,000 square feet in East Windsor by the end of the year. It will immediately occupy 220,000 square feet in the new facility, with room for expansion and anticipated growth.

Joseph O'Brien, Specialty's vice president of finance, said: "We continue to add capacity, We continue to grow the business. This is a big step forward for us."

The company also has a tech office in Tampa, Florida, and a support center in Troy, Ohio, in addition to its East Windsor operations. The change will have no effect on the out-of-state offices, according to O'Brien.

Some redundant positions will be eliminated as a result of the change, but Specialty hopes to fill some unfilled positions with displaced employees, according to O'Brien. He said the 300-person company is always hiring and now has roughly 20 unfilled positions.
