Final year Hospitality Management student, Carol Radlett has landed the coveted title of National Student Employee of the Year.

Carol was nominated by her employers Karen and Michael Reynolds, who run the Wyastone Hotel, a 13- bedroom Victorian hotel in Montpellier, Cheltenham. 

Representing the University of Gloucestershire, Carol faced tough competition from six other UK students to claim the title. 

Carol has worked at the hotel part time during her studies at the University and found the job through the University’s JobShop, a service provided by the Students’ Union to help students find part time work to support them during their studies.

“Carol’s passion for the hotel comes through in everything she does.  Her previous experience in working in larger hotels has meant that the sharing of knowledge has worked both ways and we have learnt much from her,” said Mrs and Mrs Reynolds.

The competition was judged by Alison Clark, Director of the National Association of Student Employment Services and Heather Collier, Director at the National Council for Work Experience.

Awarding Carol at the National Association of Student Employment Services annual conference, the judges said: “Carol impressed the judges with her commitment, contribution to the business’s bottom line and the impact she had made, so much so that the owners of the hotel in which she worked felt confident enough to take a holiday leaving her in charge.”

“I am totally overwhelmed to have won this award it means a lot to me and will be a great asset when applying for graduate jobs. I am so grateful to have been nominated by my managers at the Wyastone
Hotel,” said Carol.

The Student Employee of the Year Awards aim to recognise and promote the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who effectively combine part-time work with their study commitments. It is coordinated on an annual basis by the National Association of Student Employment Services.
