BMW demonstrates E Ink color changing car at CES 2022

Whatnews

BMW jobs have embraced CES 2022, not only showing the most powerful version of its flagship BMW iX - the iX M60 - but also showcasing a variety of other technology.

The color-shifting automobile is an interesting demonstration, with the premise that while interior customization is now popular thanks to ambient lighting, you're typically stuck with one exterior color for your car all of the time.

The BMW iX Flow, on the other hand, has a customized wrap that incorporates E Ink technology on the exterior. Yes, the same material drives your Amazon Kindle and allows you to switch between two colors.

When you apply a charge to the E Ink coating, the pigments in the material switch between dark and light, the BMW iX Flow can now change its exterior color with the touch of a button.

"The BMW iX Flow is an advanced research and design project and a great example of the forward-thinking that BMW is known for," said Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design.

While most of this is just stargazing, BMW points out that changing the color of the car's exterior might improve its efficiency, with white reflecting heat from the sun and darker colors absorbing more heat - something that could also be applied to interior surfaces like the dashboard jobs.

Most people will imagine how fantastic this would be as a getaway automobile, with the ability to change color at the touch of a button.
