A High School rock band and a 16-year-old girl singer will join the headline acts for Shipston-on-Stour’s Last Night of The Proms.

Battered Soul and Harriet Kelley won the event’s Fame Contest at Shipston’s Townsend Hall on Saturday.

“All of the performers were of a very high standard, but they were clear winners”, said Tim Porter, chairman of the organisers”.

The band won the best group category and Harriet was the best solo artist.

They won cash prizes and a billing on the Proms Last Night on 6th July. Headline act will be the David Bowie tribute band ‘Ultimate Bowie’ plus the ukulele supergroup, Rinky Dinks.

All eight musicians with Battered Soul are students at Shipston High School.

“I would like a future in music”, said Ben Bryan, aged 14, the band’s lead singer and guitarist.
