Bacon maker Danish Crown to invest over £100 million in UK factory which will create 300 jobs

Danish Crown

Global food company Danish Crown has announced plans to invest more than £100 million in a new factory in the north of England, creating approximately 300 jobs.

Danish Crown plans to open a 30,500-square-meter processing facility in Rochdale's Kingsway Business Park in the second half of 2023.

When fully operational, the site will be capable of producing up to 920 tonnes of bacon and gammon per week.

It will be the company's first new factory in the UK in three years.

According to Danish Crown, the new site will be powered entirely by renewable energy and built to "market-leading" environmental standards.

Heat recovery from the plant's utility systems will supplement traditional heating sources to heat the office space and supply hot water, and ammonia will be used as a refrigerant to reduce environmental impact.

Food waste will be reduced by using bacon offcuts in other products such as sausages, and packaging waste will be reduced by using a circular packaging system for pork deliveries to the site.
