Movie studios and theatres try to entice people to buy their tickets in advance by giving away collectibles such as t-shirts, caps, beanies, keychains, and other items.
AMC theatres, on the other hand, are taking things a step further by announcing that advance ticket purchases for Spider-Man: No Way Home will earn moviegoers NFTs.
For those who are unfamiliar, NFTs are digital assets that rely on blockchain technology. Right now, they’re mostly used in digital art, where you can buy an NFT Jobs of a drawing, video, photo, audio, or other digital asset and technically “own” it, similar to how a $650,000 NFT yacht in a video game was recently purchased.
According to AMC, there will be 86,000 NFTs available with approximately 100 designs to choose from, implying that you’re essentially getting a collectible in NFT form.
Of course, there’s nothing to stop someone from taking a screenshot or saving the collectible to their computer and having a copy of it, but technically, the one you redeemed from AMC would be yours to own because it’s backed by the blockchain jobs.
It’s an intriguing move by AMC, but given the world’s shift toward crypto and digital assets, we’re not surprised. If you’ve been looking for a way to get your hands on an NFT, this could be one option.
