Amazon helps Ukrainians resettle with free delivery of essential products

Amazon is working to provide more than $2 million's worth of items for Ukrainian families fleeing the devastating war to the United States.

Jeff Bezos's company is teaming with Welcome.US, local resettlement agencies, and community groups to provide free delivery for families around the country.

The US Government is set to welcome as many as 100,000 people from the war-torn European country over the next few months.

Amazon has created a program that takes advantage of the company's logistical skills and large product variety to assist these families in obtaining things they want to be able to settle fast and securely.

Amazon offers free scheduled delivery of key furniture and household supplies like mattresses, bed frames, cookware, and toiletries through the Welcome Essentials delivery program, all of which are timed to arrive when a family moves into their new home.

Corban Quiqq, the leader of the program at Amazon said: “Starting a new life far from your country is hard enough, and we know providing refuge to families with a full-equipped house helps them start a new chapter and feel welcomed. Working with resettlement organizations across the country, we were able to create a new delivery offering that allows newcomers to access all the products they need to equip their home in one single delivery instead of having to order items over multiple weeks,”

“We piloted this new, free delivery option for Afghan refugees in Detroit in March 2022 and are working on expanding the initiative to dozens of communities across the country where the greatest number of Ukrainian families are starting new lives.”

Amazon has worked with 10 resettlement agencies in certain locations to provide this program with the help of Welcome.US.

Resettlement agencies arrange permanent homes for newcomer families before placing purchases on Amazon Business for commodities and housewares deemed required by government criteria in any household.

Amazon then leverages its logistics network and last mile delivery services to consolidate the products into a single delivery that can be booked when the family moves in.

Families then arrive at a completely equipped permanent home without having to worry about expenses or delivery schedules, allowing for a fresh start.

Amazon says it will assist more than 1,000 families relocating to the United States by 2022, having already shipped over 2,000 items and approximately $100,000 in critical household supplies. Aside from free scheduled delivery for new households.

In addition, Amazon has pledged $2 million in merchandise donations to Welcome.US and local resettlement agencies to assist this endeavor.
