Performing Arts students at the University of Gloucestershire have set their sights on one of the world’s most prestigious festivals and are showcasing their talents to help them get there.
From body waxing to a Summer Ball, the second year students who are studying the Foundation Degree at Oxstalls Campus, aim to raise £6,000 to cover the costs of performing at next year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
And taking a leaf out of the X-Factor’s book, their latest event is a talent show and search for young stars in December.
Student Kieran Mortell said the fundraising was going well but they still had a way to go to reach their target, and achieve their dream of appearing at the Edinburgh Festival.
“It would be amazing if our class could perform there, and we’re doing everything we can to make our dream a reality. The boys on the course have decided to get their body hair waxed to raise sponsorship, and as well as musical events and productions we’re holding car boot sales and of course, the All Eyes on You Talent competition. This is a great opportunity for young stars to make the most of their talents and they’ll be judged by a panel of professional artists from the theatrical world.”
All proceeds from the All Eyes on You Talent Competitions will go towards the fundraising for the students’ performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Summer 2010.
Participants will need to attend a heat at either

• Friday December 18, 4pm-7pm, University of Gloucestershire, Oxstalls Campus, Longlevens, Gloucester, GL2 9HW.
• Saturday December 19, 10am-1pm, University of Gloucestershire, Hardwick Campus, Cheltenham, GL50 4BS.

The time limit is three minutes for solo and five minutes for group performances. Entry is £5 for a solo act and £10 for a group act. All acts must provide their music and singers must only be singing to backing tracks.
After the heats, eight juniors and eight seniors will be picked to attend and perform in front of an audience at the Grand Final. This will take place on Sunday December 20 at The Park campus, Cheltenham, GL50 2RH.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the juniors and the seniors. Tickets to the Grand Final are £3 each for non-participants.
